Annie Hanson stepping away from recruiting role at USC (USC Football Recruiting)

Annie Hanson is stepping away from her role as USC's executive director of recruiting, she announced Tuesday evening. She is married to USC offensive line coach Zach Hanson, and the couple announced the birth of their first child last month.

Hanson said she is not leaving college football completely and this move is intended as a hiatus, not a retirement.

"I am looking forward to supporting our team in an alternative role and will be cheering for our leadership team as they position our people and program for greatness," Hanson wrote. "And while my days in college football aren’t over, I want to thank every coach, coach’s wife, teammate, mentor, player, recruit, and family member who has been a part of our journey. A special thanks to our immediate family, who has made countless sacrifices to allow me to do what I love. I’m beyond grateful and excited for the next season ahead!"

An All-Big 12 performer on the track at Oklahoma, Hanson started working on the development side of college athletics before serving as the director of on-campus recruiting and the assistant AD for recruiting at North Carolina in 2015.

Hanson then returned to Oklahoma upon Lincoln Riley's appointment as head coach in 2017 as assistant athletic director/recruiting strategy and administrative engagement. There, she had oversight of nearly all of Oklahoma's recruiting efforts, from game day programming, to camps and junior days, as well as "developing strategic planning centered around the program's defined recruiting goals and integrating the enhanced application of data analytics into the football recruiting process."

Prior winners chose Hanson as a co-winner of the FootballScoop Player Personnel Director of the Year in 2019.

She was among the collection of assistants to follow Riley from Norman to Los Angeles.
