Jack Curtis is not expected to return as Tulane's defensive coordinator, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.
Curtis has worked under head coach Willie Fritz for the past seven seasons, dating back to the pair's time together at Georgia Southern. Curtis helped Fritz's teams post winning records five times in those seven seasons, including 2020.
The Green Wave closed the regular season winning four of their final games, falling only to AAC finalist Tulsa in double overtime. Tulane ranks third in the conference in yards per play (5.54) and third in scoring (27.2 points per game).
Curtis began coaching as an undergraduate at Evangel University and worked six years before landing his first full-time position, even spending 1991-92 as a volunteer at Mississippi State. He joined Western New Mexico's staff as defensive backs coach in 1993 and later coordinated defenses for Northwestern State, Arkansas State and Central Missouri before linking up with Fritz.
Sources indicate Fritz would like to move quickly to fill the role.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
Update> Tulane has now confirmed Jack Curtis will not return and they have begun a search for a new defensive coordinator.
