Michigan strength coach Ben Herbert is expected to follow Jim Harbaugh to Los Angeles, according to multiple reports on Monday.
Herbert is extremely well regarded by Jim Harbaugh and adored by Michigan, evidenced by his $1 million salary and his associate head coach title.
Herbert will join defensive coordinator Jesse Minter in following Harbaugh from Ann Arbor to Los Angeles.
“He is the X-factor in our football program,” Harbaugh said earlier this year. “He is the center of player development. He is phenomenal; more than anybody in our entire program. It’s with every player, it’s with every position group.
“His impact on every single player, every single coach — including myself — we say he’s the best."
Identical to how Michigan promoted Sherrone Moore to head coach, Moore is expected to promote associate strength coach Justin Tress to replace Herbert.
Tress followed Herbert from Arkansas in 2018.
