Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Rob Livingston is expected to be the next defensive coordinator at Colorado, according to multiple reports on Wednesday evening.
The move cements that Coach Prime will work with new coordinators on both sides of the ball in his second season at CU. Sanders replaced offensive coordinator Sean Lewis with Pat Shurmur mid-season (Lewis is now the head coach at San Diego State), and defensive coordinator Charles Kelly took a co-defensive coordinator job at Auburn.
Livingston spent the past 12 seasons with the Bengals, rising from a scout responsible for evaluating defensive backs to one of the most respected defensive backs coaches in football.
He joined the coaching staff in 2015 as a quality control coach working with the secondary and special teams, then joined the full-time coaching staff in 2016. That season, Cincinnati ranked second in the NFL in interceptions and fifth in pass efficiency defense.
In all, Livingston spent eight seasons coaching defensive back play in Cincinnati and six working specifically with the safeties.
Colorado's pass defense was among the worst in college football last season. Opposing passers completed 269-of-417 throws (64.5 percent) for 3,323 yards (8.0 per attempt) with 28 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Only Stanford played a similar number of games and yielded more touchdown passes.
Overall, Colorado finished the year 115th in yards per play, 110th in rushing, 125th on third down, and 124th in scoring en route to a 4-8 season under first-year head coach Deion Sanders.
