Hawai'i: The University of Hawai'i Athletics Department is seeking applications for a Strength and Conditioning Graduate Student Assistant (GSA). CRITERIA: Must be classified degree-seeking student in a Masters program under the UHM Office of Graduate Education; be a Graduate School student enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours per semester at the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa. Note: International students must take 8 or more credits (full-time) which is a requirement to have a I-20; maintain the requirements of a Graduate School student including Grade Point Average requirements; and be in good academic standing. BENEFITS: The maximum amount a Graduate Student Assistant may receive will be equal to a Graduate School (General) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa tuition and fees (general) up to 9 credits maximum. Tuition does not include payment for Outreach College extension courses. GSA will be responsible for payment to Outreach College. Graduate Student Assistants will receive a monthly stipend for room and board (Student-Athlete Grant in Aid equivalency from 11 months (July through May). The Department will pay for Graduate Student Assistant’s required books (up to 9 credit hours). All benefits will be prorated should the approval and clearance be after July 1, 2020. Appointment renewable upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Individual Associated with a Prospective Student-Athlete -- Football and Basketball. An individual associated with a prospective student-athlete is any person who maintains (or directs others to maintain) contact with prospective student-athlete, the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardians, or coaches at any point during the prospective student-athlete’s participation in football and/or basketball, and whose contact is directly or indirectly related to either the prospective student-athlete’s athletic skills and abilities or the prospective student- athlete’s recruitment by or enrollment in an NCAA institution. This definition includes, but is not limited to, parents, legal guardians, handlers, personal trainers and coaches. An individual who meets this definition retains such status during the enrolment of the prospective student-athlete at the institution. APPOINTMENT PERIOD: July 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, or related field and one (1) year experience in strength and conditioning training at the collegiate level preferred or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Current certification through a nationally accredited strength and conditioning association (CSCCa or NSCA) and current first aid/CPR and AED certification. Macalester (MN): Macalester College is accepting applications for Sports Performance Interns. The position is unpaid and for the 2020 fall semester. A time commitment of 10-20 hours per week is required. Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assisting the strength and conditioning staff with the design and implementation of strength, speed, and agility programs; Assisting with the supervision of training programs; Daily upkeep and maintenance of equipment; Assisting with daily administrative and maintenance items. Preferred qualifications include: Senior status or completion of a bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field; CSCCa-SCCC, NSCA-CSCS or USAW certification; CPR/AED certification. Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (IL): Southern Illinois University (Carbondale)-Southern Illinois University-Carbondale is seeking applicants for one (1) Graduate Assistant position with an expected start date of August 1. Duties include assisting the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach in all aspects of the SIUC strength and conditioning program including but not limited to team warm-ups, strength and speed training, conditioning, flexibility, athlete assessments, support goals and objectives of SIUC athletic program, comply with University, Conference, NCAA Division 1 rules and regulations, work cooperatively with departmental personnel, support the student-athlete concept, and demonstrate concern for health, safety, and welfare of each student athlete. Minimum requirements include Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science related field and a strong desire to pursue an Athletic Performance career. Preferred experience as a collegiate athlete, or no less than one academic year of undergraduate/postgraduate internship experience coaching weightlifting at the collegiate level. Must have completed CSCS through the NSCA. Candidate must meet admission requirements of chosen degree. Evidence of strong organizational skills.
