The NCAA on Thursday announced it will increase the time Division I teams are allowed to hold virtual meetings with players.
Beginning Monday, April 20 and running through May 31, all Division I teams will now be allowed to meet with players for up to eight hours per week. In those eight hours, coaches are allowed to review film, discuss Xs and Os, and general team meetings.
Included in the announcement was that teams are prohibited from holding required meetings one week before final exams for the Spring 2020 term and may not resume them until finals are complete.
The change was made by the Division I Council Coordination Committee.
“This change not only allows coaches to continue to educate their student-athletes but also fosters the connectivity that comes with team-based activities,” said Council chair M. Grace Calhoun, athletics director at Penn. “Regular, individual check-ins between student-athletes and coaches remain permissible and are encouraged.”
