LIU has announced the hiring of two new coordinators.
Jim Cordle will serve as the Sharks' new offensive coordinator, and Mark Smith as the club's defensive coordinator.
Cordle, a former Super Bowl champion offensive lineman with the New York Giants, arrives from Urbana, where he spent three seasons on staff and two as offensive coordinator. Prior to that, he spent two years as a GA at Ohio State.
"Jim is a great father as well as coach. He treats his players like his sons," Urbana head coach Tyler Haines said. "He has a sharp offensive mind and he understands space and angles. He was an excellent recruiter for us."
Smith spent the past two seasons as the defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Arkansas. He was on Chad Morris's staff at SMU for the three season before that, working as an offensive assistant for two seasons and as a defensive assistant for one, while also serving as director of recruiting.
"LIU not only has added a great football coach to the staff, but they have gained a great family that will love and support the university, community, and players," Morris said. "I consider Mark Smith to be one of the top young minds in college football. His overall knowledge of football and recruiting will be a great asset to the program. You won't find a coach that will be more dedicated and work any harder than Coach Smith."
LIU went 0-10 under head coach Bryan Collins in 2019, its first against FCS competition. The Sharks compete in the Northeast Conference and are scheduled to open their season at Montana State on Sept. 5.
