Sources: Vanderbilt adding former Mississippi State, Washington State staffer Shane Gallant (pro football focus)

As he moves into a critical fourth year at the helm at his alma mater, Vanderbilt, Clark Lea is adding a seasoned staff member directly from an SEC competitor.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Shane Gallant is heading to Nashville to join the Commodores staff as a special teams analyst.

The moves comes after Gallant spent the past four seasons on staff at Mississippi State in a similar role.

It's also part of Lea's massive staff shake-up since Vanderbilt wrapped up a disappointing 2023 campaign.

The Commodores have seen Lea hire Tim Beck to run their offense, elevated former popular Notre Dame assistant Nick Lezynski to defensive run game coordinator and also add Jeff LePak as the new special teams coordinator. LePak also is going to work with the Vanderbilt tight ends group.

Gallant brings with him both significant experience and particularly strong work the past two seasons with the Bulldogs.

State was ranked No. 1 and also in the top 25 of the Pro Football Focus special teams rankings in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, respectively.

He's also coached at Bowling Green and Washington State.
