Sources: Texas university to add Rice staffer (marco regalado)

As the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley moves closer to launching its NCAA football program, inaugural head coach Travis Bush is making another key staff addition.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Marco Regalado is set to join the Vaqueros staff as a full-time assistant coach.

A formal announcement is expected Monday as UTRGV and Bush add the fifth full-time member to their staff. The program is set to play its first game in August 2024.

Regalado presently is Rice's executive director of player personnel and heads up recruiting innovation for Mike Bloomgren's Owls' program.

Additionally, Regalado, honored by FootballScoop as part of its 2022 Minority Rising Stars in coaching, has on-field coaching experience in the Texas high school ranks while also serving an NFL Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowship with the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this summer. He worked at the Power 5 level when he headed up recruiting at Washington State.

Regalado helps Bush further strengthen his initial staff with more roots in the Lone Star State. The Texas State grad is an Zapata, Texas, native.

He will fill a full-time assistant role yet to be determined; Regalado has past experience and coaching versatility on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
