Sources: Jay Norvell, Colorado State adding former SEC defensive coordinator (John Jancek)

Coming off an eight-win season in which his team six of its final seven regular-season contests, Jay Norvell is poised to make an impressive staff addition to his Colorado State program.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Norvell and the Rams are adding former SEC defensive coordinator and veteran assistant John Jancek to the Colorado State staff as an outside linebackers coach.

Late last month the Rams added Tyson Sommers as their new defensive coordinator. Sommers, an experience defensive coach, also has had coaching experience from his time atop the Georgia Southern program.

Jancek similarly has deep ties across the South and also previously coordinated defenses at Colorado State.

A former top-level defensive play-caller in the SEC, Jancek ran defenses for Mark Richt at Georgia and Butch Jones at Tennessee, where he helped the Vols to back-to-back bowl wins in 2014-15.

Jancek also has coordinated defenses at Cincinnati and spent time on Kirby Smart's Georgia staff and Brian Kelly's LSU staff.

The Rams closed 8-5 last season, falling to Miami (Ohio) in their postseason bowl game, and are set to open the 2025 campaign against Washington Aug. 30 in Seattle.
