Pete Thamel tweets this afternoon that San Deigo State head coach Rocky Long is considering leaving for a defensive coordinator opportunity.
Thamel notes that Long is visiting with Syracuse today, where Dino Babers happens to have an open defensive coordinator position.
Long has been the head coach at SDSU since 2011 when he was promoted from defensive coordinator following Brady Hoke's decision to leave for the Michigan job. He's done an impressive job of winning at least 7-games every season and has hit the double-digit win mark four times, including a 10-win mark in 2019.
Overall as the head coach at SDSU he has a 81-38 record.
Long, a well respected defensive mind in the profession, has previously coordinated defenses at UCLA, Oregon State, and Wyoming, with assistant coaching stops at a number of programs in college football and a season in Canada as well.
