The NCAA Division I Council on Tuesday voted to shorten both transfer portal windows. The winter window has been reduced from 30 days to 20, and the spring window from 15 days down to 10.
The real news hidden within there is that the spring window has survived after the Football Oversight Committee recommended eliminating it back in August.
The winter window will now run from Dec. 9-28, and the spring window from April 16-25.
As a reminder, the early signing period has moved out in front of the winter transfer portal window. It will run from Dec. 4-6.
Players will still have 30 days to enter the portal following their head coach's departure, no matter when that occurs on the calendar.
Effective immediately, football notification of transfer windows will open for 30 total days, including 20 days after FBS conference championship weekend and 10 days in the spring.
