Jeff Monken signs contract extension at Army (Jeff Monken)

Jeff Monken has signed a contract extension to remain at Army through 2027, according to multiple reports on Monday.

Monken, 56, has been Army's head coach since 2014. His 66 wins trail only College Football Hall of Famer Red Blaik's 121 for the most wins by an Army head coach.

The extension will pay Monken an average topping $2 million per year over the life of the deal.

Hired in 2014 after a 38-16 run at Georgia Southern, Monken has guided the Black Knights to five bowl games (four wins) in the past six seasons. Monken also snapped a 14-game losing streak to Navy in 2016 and is 5-2 in his last seven games against the Midshipmen. Army claimed the Commander-in-Chief Trophy in 2017-18 and 2020-21.

Monken is in the process of moving Army away from the triple option due to NCAA rules changes. The Black Knights are off to a 2-1 start to this season, coming off a 37-29 win at UTSA, snapping the Roadrunners' 7-game winning streak in the Alamodome.

The extension comes as Army has entered serious discussions to join the American Athletic Conference as a football-only member.
