The University of Alabama's board of trustees will meet Friday to discuss "consideration of resolution approving a naming at Bryant-Denny Stadium at UA," and the result of that discussion will be Nick Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium, according to multiple reports on Thursday.
Alabama will dedicate the naming of the field after its 6-time national champion head coach at the South Florida game on Sept. 7, Tide Illustrated first reported.
Saban retired in January after leading the Crimson Tide to a half-dozen national championships, 11 SEC championships and 201 wins across 17 seasons.
He'll presumably have to ask for time off from his new employer, ESPN, where he has joined as a contributor and was on hand for SEC media days all week in Dallas. ESPN awarded him the ESPY Icon Award earlier this month, and Saban already has a statue outside Bryant-Denny Stadium, alongside Alabama's other national-championship winning coaches.
