Lane Kiffin made the highly controversial decision to leave his team as they were preparing for the College Football Playoff for SEC rival LSU, and Ole Miss administrators wasted no time in tabbing Pete Golding as the team's new leader.
They did not tab him interim head coach for the playoff run, instead, with stability at the forefront of their minds, they named him the new head coach of the Rebs moving forward.
As perhaps the first public sign that the anointing of Golding was a steep departure from Kiffin, Golding opted to push back his introductory presser to make sure the entire focus was on the team and not himself as they began playoff.
His first reaction upon being named head coach, by his own admission, was to get out of his chair and make sure the offensive staff boarding planes to go with Lane to Baton Rouge would remain on-board and provide continuity at least through the team's playoff run.
With many guys weighing the opportunity to join Lane in Baton Rouge after seeing the Rebels through the remainder of their season, and much of the defensive staff expected to remain the same, the picture of what Golding's full staff will look like will clearer following their playoff run.
