Antonio Huffman -- 2025 FootballScoop Operations Director of the Year (CoY 2025)

FootballScoop is proud to announce that Antonio Huffman (Texas Tech) is the 2025 FootballScoop Football Operations Director of the Year, presented by Teamworks as selected by prior winners.

An outsider might read the job description of Director of Football Operations and think, travel, budgets, academics, camps, communications, logistics, etc… but the reality of the modern day job is so, so much more.

Construct and move into a new facility. Hire and on board multiple new staff members. Help lead the national organization created to help others succeed in this career. Help implement one of the largest revenue sharing & NIL operations in the country. Be a great father, husband, friend, coworker, boss, employee, staff member, leader and consigliere.

Welcome to Antonio Huffman’s life.

A Red Raider himself, Huffman has spent 10+ seasons in Lubbock as a player, in Personnel and now in Operations. Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire affectionately refers to Huffman as the “head coach off the field”.

McGuire told FootballScoop, “I’m so happy for Antonio.  He is the best in the business.  He makes my job easy when it comes to anything off the field.  He is a proud Red Raider that loves his University and works extremely hard to make this the best program in the country.”

In speaking with DFOs across the country about Huffman, we consistently heard, “He’s a guy who is always willing to give his time, share his ideas and help others grow in the profession.” Multiple former winners added, “We’ve never seen him without a smile on his face. He’s always willing to help and you can tell that doing so brings him joy. He’s just a great person.”

Following his playing career at Texas Tech where he was a three-year starter at defensive back, he would go on to serve as director of player personnel for the Red Raiders during the ’08 & ’09 seasons. After going with Ruffin McNeil to East Carolina for the 2010 and ’11 seasons, he would join back up with Mike Leach as Washington State where he would oversee operations from 2012 through the 2018 season.

In 2019 Huffman returned to Lubbock to oversee operations for the Red Raiders and has never looked back. Officially titled Associate AD for Football Administration, Huffman oversees the day-to-day operations for the football program, all while adding administrative duties within the athletics department serving as the football program’s liaison to administration regarding any legislation pertaining to name-image-likeness (NIL) and the introduction to revenue sharing. He also oversees any football facility improvements, namely the south end zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project that opened during the 2024 season.

Speaking recently about the Football Support Staff at Texas Tech, Huffman shared, "Coach McGuire really enables us to do whatever we can to make this an elite group. From Quinton (Jordan), to Preslee (Quisenberry), to James (Blanchard), Kate (Eberhardt), Alayshia (Green)...truly the entire staff, too many to name one by one, they are an elite group focused on ensuring our student athletes have the best possible experience at Texas Tech University. We have a great group."
