Glenville State will not renew head coach Mike Kellar's contract after seven seasons on the job, the school announced Tuesday.
“We thank Coach Kellar for his years of service here at Glenville,” AD Jesse Skiles said. “Institutionally, we are going in a different direction with the football program at this time. We wish him the best moving forward.”
Kellar came to Glenville State, a Division II school in Glenville, W. Va., after serving as the offensive coordinator at West Liberty University. A former Glenville State quarterback himself, Kellar exits his alma mater with a 36-32 career record. The Pioneers concluded a 6-5 season with a 56-16 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
Excluding the pandemic-interrupted seasons of 2020-21, Kellar never booked a losing season at Glenville State, including a 7-4 mark in 2024, but the Pioneers never climbed above the 7-win mark in his seven seasons on the job.
Prior to Glenville State, Kellar was the head coach at Concord University, California (Pa.) and Lenoir-Rhyne. He owns a career 87-67 record.
