Nick Newsome’s promising young coaching journey is set for another Power Conference destination.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Newsome is joining Mike Locksley’s Maryland Terps staff as assistant secondary coach.
The move is set to mark the third Power Conference program for Newsome.
He spent the 2024 season on Mack Brown’s final North Carolina staff.
Prior to that, Newsome also previously worked at Georgia Tech.
He’s coached with rising star Tre Lamb at Gardner-Webb. Lamb was hired late last year to run his first FBS program, taking over at Tulsa.
He’s also coached around UT-Martin and Austin Peay.
Maryland is dramatically reshaping its coaching staff under Locksley after a disastrous 2024 season In which the Terps lost seven of their final eight games.
They open their 2025 season Aug. 30 home against FAU.
