Vying for the to catch the eye of bacon aficionado Andy Staples, Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin retweeted a creative idea earlier this morning thrown out there by the Mississippi State marketing department to get fans into often overlooked home volleyball games.
How no other program has considered doing this is beyond my comprehension. And providing free chocolate is the icing on the cake...and that cake is made with 100% bacon.
Think of all the possibilities for athletic departments at smaller programs at the D-II, D-III, and NAIA level.
At the very basic level, you could throw some fliers out around campus during the week to hype it up, simply stating that FREE bacon will be handed out at the game, and the morning of game day throw some bacon on the grill and let the smell do the work, wafting around the stadium and carrying throughout campus.
Forget striping the stadium, or any other unexciting theme making the rounds at college football games around the country right now, if this idea - started in Starkville to get people in the stands at a volleyball game - isn't the best idea in the game right now, I don't know what is.
