Update> Sources FootballScoop has spoken with confirm that A&M is looking to hire who Kevin Sumlin believes is the best defensive coordinator in the country. We understand that list is very, very short and begins with Pat Narduzzi and Will Muschamp.
Original post> Mark Snyder will not return as Texas A&M's defensive coordinator, the school announced on Friday afternoon.
The Aggies, who finished 7-5 this season after a 5-0 start, ranked 11th or lower in the 14-team SEC in every major defensive category except yards per attempt allowed, where they finished tied for ninth.
The final straw came Thursday night, as LSU ran for 384 yards on 6.7 per carry in a 23-17 Tigers victory. The Aggies also allowed Missouri to rush for 335 yards the game prior in a 34-27 defeat.
Snyder will receive a $700,000 buyout to be paid through March 2016. Linebackers coach Mark Hagen will be the interim defensive coordinator for the Aggies' to-be-determined bowl game.
