Western Michigan won the MAC Championship last night, though the victory did not come without drama. The Broncos led throughout but needed an interception in their own territory inside the final minute to hold off Ohio, 29-23.
The victory was Western Michigan's first conference championship since 1988 and their first MAC Championship Game win ever. It also secured a 13-0 regular season for the Broncos, putting them well in position to reach the Cotton Bowl -- which would also surpass the 1961 Aviation Bowl as the biggest bowl game in program history.
The win also allowed P.J. Fleck to unleash his full P.J. Fleck.
"I'm going wear cotton shirts," Fleck said after the game regarding his club's derby with Navy to grab the Group of 5 Cotton Bowl bid. "I'm going to have cotton slippers. I'm going to have cotton earmuffs. I'm going to have a cotton jacket. I'm going to wear everything cotton from here on out." Oh, he also did this. https://vine.co/v/5UlmehWALYB And did this on Saturday morning.
Fleck was questioned repeatedly about Oregon's interest in him after the game as well. “If you don’t live in the moment you’re going to be miserable," Fleck said, "and I don’t want to be miserable tonight.”
