Independence (CC - KS): Long-time head coach Steve Carson is retiring, per source. Offensive coordinator Matt Lott is expected to be named interim head coach and is expected to be strongly considered for the job on a permanent basis.
New Orleans Saints: Sean Payton has now confirmed that Rob Ryan is leaving the organization and Dennis Allen is being promoted to defensive coordinator.
Miami: Following the U's announcement of their search committee, Greg Cote of the Miami Herald writes that Mario Cristobal might well be the favorite.
Olivet Nazarene (NAIA - IL): We are told that both the offensive and defensive coordinator positions are open at Olivet Nazarene.
Central Methodist (NAIA - MO): Head coach Jody Ford has stepped down. Ford oversaw the program the past four seasons.
Virginia Tech: Sources tell FootballScoop that Whit Babcock considers Larry Fedora a strong candidate at Virginia Tech. We are also of the understanding that Rich Rodriguez will not be a candidate for this position.
Arkansas at Monticello (D-II): The University of Arkansas at Monticello is seeking applicants for the position of an assistant football coach/defensive coordinator. This is a full-time, non-tenure appointment beginning immediately. Responsibilities: The responsibilities include assisting the head football coach in assignments relating to the football program, recruiting qualified student-athletes; developing and coordinating an academic program for all student athletes; and other duties as assigned by the head football coach. Qualifications: Coaches of football/teachers of physical education must have a background of teaching and competitive coaching experience. A master's degree is preferred. The successful candidate must also have recruiting experience, knowledge of NCAA rules, commitment to the academic success of student-athletes, and the ability to organize and motivate student-athletes to maximum performance level. Physical education class instruction is an expectation in a variety of traditional classes. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience including excellent fringe benefits. Cal: Last week, following multiple media reports that he was keeping his ears open, Sonny Dykes told the Mercury News that "This is where I want to be. It's where I am. I came here and it's where I want to be." Athletic director Mike Williams added today, "It's my intention to keep him here." Dykes has his program 6-4 and bowl eligible for the first time since 2011.
UW-Eau Claire (D-III): Head coach Todd Glaser and his staff have been relieved of their duties. Glaser spent 10 seasons as the head coach of the program. The team finished 0-10 this year.
Springfield (D-III - MA): Head coach Mike DeLong has announced that he will retire after 32 seasons leading the program. DeLong is the program's all-time winningest coach (201-139-2) and guided the program to 11 postseason appearances.
Whittier College (D-III - CA): Whittier College, located in the Los Angeles area, is currently accepting applications for a head football coach. This position is a full-time, twelve-month appointment with a comprehensive benefits package. A Bachelor’s degree is required; however a Master’s degree is strongly preferred. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruit and retain qualified student-athletes, practice and game preparation, athlete development, coaching/teaching, budget management, travel coordination, staff supervision and other areas of sport administration. Maintaining a working relationship with campus colleagues, alumni, community members, and other constituents is vital. The ideal candidate will have previous college playing and coaching experience with a strong understanding of the DIII philosophy and its role at a private liberal arts institution. Additional responsibilities will also be assigned by the Executive Director of Athletics and Special Assistant to the President. Tarleton State (D-II - TX): Head coach Cary Flower has stepped down. In six seasons at the helm, Fowler's teams won 30 games including the 2013 Lone Star championship.
Miami: AD Blake James announced Monday the U has retained Korn Ferry to assist with the search. Additionally, UM board of trustees members Hilarie Bass, David Epstein and Steve Saiontz, deputy AD Jennifer Strawley and former players Jonathan Vilma and Vinny Testaverde will serve as a search advisory committee.
Millikin (D-III - IL): Millikin University is accepting applications for a head football coach. Recruitment and retention of highly qualified student-athletes will be keys to success in the program. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track position reporting to the Director of Athletics. A second duty may be assigned dependent on the candidate’s strengths and experience. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, and previous college coaching experience. Head coaching and coordinator experience will receive preference. Louisiana-Monroe: ULM President Nick Bruno and athletic director Brian Wickstrom plan to meet over the next couple days to finalize their plan and begin the search for a new head coach, according to The News Star. Wickstrom added that "a history of winning" is going to be a big criteria in their search.
New Orleans Saints: Per Alex Marvez, the Saints are firing defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Update> Sean Payton, speaking to the media, says he has yet to make any coaching changes; but won't rule them out. Says he needs to meet with GM Mickey Loomis first.
