After missing graduation due to a playoff game, Sam Houston State held its own ceremony on the plane (Sam Houston State)

Know how maritime law grants the captain of a ship the sovereignty to officiate a marriage ceremony while out at sea? Well, apparently a similar statute exists for graduation ceremonies and plane flights.

Sam Houston State missed its winter graduation ceremony while on a plane to Philadelphia to face Villanova in the FCS quarterfinals, so the Bearkats and the flight crew conducted their own ceremony for seniors Dustin Moehlig and Shane Young and football staff member Chris Rogers.

Sam Houston State won the game, 34-31, and will meet North Dakota State in the FCS semifinals. No cap and gown necessary for this trip, though.
