Dating back to 2002, Fordham and Columbia have competed for the Liberty Cup, a game meant to honor the alumni of both schools and members of the FDNY, NYPD, EMS, and Port Authority who lost their lives on the September 11th terrorist attacks.
Back in 2013, Fordham set the bar pretty high as far as patriotic uniforms go with a set of new threads that included a unique idea with the stars and stripes pattern inside of the numbers themselves.
This year they're upping the ante even more with a helmet and uniform combo that look really good. Especially in a day where most programs just change their logo to red, white and blue, or do something else along those lines that is very generic. This one swings for the fences. That helmet, with the worn, split stars and stripes look, is a winner in my book.
Also, instead of names on the back of the uniforms, the name plates will honor organizations like the Port Authority, NYPD, EMS, or FDNY.
Last year, Fordham took home the Liberty Cup with a 49-7 victory, marking their fifth straight win in the rivalry game.
