Jeremy Pruitt is the head coach at Tennessee. Kirby Smart is the head coach at Georgia. Both current SEC East coaches share an intertwined past as longtime Nick Saban assistants. In fact, when Smart left Saban's side to take the Georgia job, Pruitt left Georgia to take Smart's job as the Alabama defensive coordinator without an interview.
But their shared history is actually a lot more intimate than that, as Pruitt shared at SEC media days on Wednesday.
Chances are that story doesn't come up when the former co-workers meet as rival head coaches for the first time in Athens on Sept. 29.
