There's a really cool Twitter account you may not have heard of -- though, with more than 2 million followers, chances are you have. It's called History in Pictures, and the name tells you all you need to know.
We saw a college football version of that this week when Baton Rouge TV station WAFB unearthed this clip of the 2003 LSU team at a spring practice. There's head coach Nick Saban, wearing his LSU purple. And there's defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. And there's offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher. And look over there, it's running backs coach Derek Dooley!
Muschamp, Fisher and Dooley weren't the only talented, accomplished coaches on that staff, either. Here's the full staff, with were they are now in parenthesis:
Head coach: Nick Saban (Alabama head coach)
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach: Jimbo Fisher (Texas A&M head coach)
Running backs coach: Derek Dooley (Missouri offensive coordinator)
Wide receivers coach: Stan Hixon (Temple wide receivers coach)
Offensive line coach: Stacy Searles (Miami offensive line coach)
Tight ends coach: Lance Thompson (South Carolina assistant head coach/defensive line coach)
Defensive coordinator: Will Muschamp (South Carolina head coach)
Linebackers coach: Kirk Doll (East Carolina special teams coordinator)
Defensive backs coach: Tim Walton (most recently New York Giants defensive backs coach)
Defensive line coach: Travis Jones (Atlanta Falcons assistant defensive line coach)
And the talent didn't stop there either.
This staff would actually get better the next year, when Saban hired a 28-year-old former Florida State GA named Kirby Smart to be his defensive backs coach.
The 2003 LSU team would go on to win the school's first national championship since 1959, put 20 players in the NFL Draft and send a third of its on-field assistants to SEC head coaching jobs.
Now that we've seen this, someone needs to start a @CFBHistoryinPix account, solely to post pictures of coaches wearing other teams' colors.
