Sources: Ed McCaffrey to be head coach at Northern Colorado (Featured)

Ed McCaffrey will be the next head coach at Northern Colorado, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.

That is the Ed McCaffrey, he of 565 career NFL receptions and the father of four former and current college football players, most famously Christian.

McCaffrey is currently the head coach at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., a suburb of Denver. The youngest of the four McCaffrey boys, Luke, graduated from Valor in 2019 and redshirted this season at Nebraska.

The Eagles went 10-2 under McCaffrey's direction this season, falling to Columbine High School in the second round of the CHSAA playoffs. Valor Christian represents the full extent of his coaching experience.

McCaffrey, a 3-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos, is a co-founder of Pacific Pro Football, a semi-pro spring league headed by super-agent Don Yee. The league announced on Jan. 7 that McCaffrey would serve as commissioner. McCaffrey has also worked as a color analyst on the Broncos' radio broadcasts and for Altitude Sports and Entertainment.

Northern Colorado, located in Greeley, Colo., roughly 60 miles north of Denver, went 2-10 this season under head coach Earnest Collins. Collins was not retained on Nov. 24. The Bears compete in the Big Sky Conference of FCS.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.

Update: McCaffrey has now confirmed the move.
