While it's not official yet, all signs point to USC hiring Cincinnati's Mike Bohn as its new AD.
And it didn't take long it all once word broke for attention to turn toward the next hire on USC's to-do list: the head football coach.
Stadium's Brett McMurphy quoted sources saying USC will do "whatever it takes" to get Urban Meyer as Clay Helton's replacement, assuming Helton is indeed let go after this season, and the belief among many (at least, the pro-Urban camp in Los Angeles -- which is to say everyone) is that Bohn is the man to make that happen. Bohn and Meyer have never worked together, though they have crossed paths: Bohn hired Luke Fickell off Meyer's Ohio State staff, and Meyer's son Nate currently plays baseball at Cincinnati.
The quote begs an interesting question: What does it take to get Urban Meyer at this stage in his life?
The initial thought would have to be money, and USC could scrounge together all of it if Urban was interested. But then again, Urban has been wealthy for years at this point. Assuming he's managed his money correctly, Meyer doesn't need set-for-life money, he already had it before he even got to Ohio State. If he's not motivated to, for example, become the first college football coach to earn $10 million per year in salary, then what else in the USC portfolio could pull Urban out of retirement?
For starters, they've got a premier program that's tailor-made to catapult into the nationally elite and compete almost immediately for national championships, which would push him past rival Nick Saban as the first coach to lead three different schools to national titles. And as it turns out that might be all they need in the first place.
