Update: Fisher has denied the report.
Jeff Fisher is in line to coach the XFL's Houston team, according to a tweet Thursday from CBS Sports's Jason La Canfora. The XFL is in the final rounds of locking down head coaches for its eight franchises ahead of the league's Feb. 8, 2020 launch. Kevin Gilbride (New York) and Jonathan Hayes (St. Louis) have been announced as head coaches in the past week, and XFL commissioner Oliver Luck has stated he'd like to get all eight head coaches on board by the end of this month. Houston and Los Angeles are the only clubs still in need of head coaches. Other XFL head coaches include Bob Stoops (Dallas), Marc Trestman (Tampa Bay), Pep Hamilton (Washington DC) and Jim Zorn (Seattle), all coaches with a pedigree similar to Fisher's.
Fisher spent 21 seasons as the head coach of the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams. He led the Titans to the AFC championship in the 1999 season but did not reach the playoffs in his final seven combined seasons with the Titans and Rams. Fisher's teams missed the playoffs in 15 of his 21 full seasons; his career record sits at 173-165-1.
Fisher has not coached during the 2017 or 2018 seasons after his firing by the Rams for a 4-9 start to the 2016 campaign, the fifth time in six seasons a Fisher-led team lost at least nine games.
