At about 11am today, Vince Tyra met with Bobby Petrino to inform him that they'd be taking the program in a new direction following the team's rough 2-8 start.
Tyra said at his presser today that he simply didn't see the difference following their bye week that he was hoping for, and "to use a football term, I called an audible because I didn't like what I was reading. Three weeks into all of it, I felt compelled to change the timeline."
Even well before Petrino's dismissal, there has been one name on top of the heap of candidates when discussing Louisville's next move, and it's no secret that name is Purdue's Jeff Brohm.
Brohm grew up in Louisville, played his high school ball at Louisville Trinity HS (Louisville, KY), and then had an outstanding career as the quarterback for his hometown college team, including a 9-3 mark his senior year in 1993, eventually going onto a career in the NFL with the Chargers, Redskins, 49ers, Bucs, Broncos, Browns, and of course with the Orlando Rage of the XFL - which provided us with this epic moment.
When asked if he felt any added pressure to "land a certain target," - obviously alluding to hometown product Brohm - Tyra offered the following:
Purdue is sitting at 5-5 right now under Brohm, including that stomping of Ohio State that caught the nation's attention a few weeks back.
Much like Scott Frost's return to Nebraska, Brohm and Louisville are going to be the hot topic of discussion of the coaching carousel until either A) Louisville names someone other than Brohm their head coach, or B) Purdue locks Brohm down with a contract extension or C) someone else entirely swoops in with a better offer to lure Brohm away.
