After two trips to Europe, Jim Harbaugh is taking Michigan south. Much, much further south.
The Wolverines head coach announced on WTKA-AM on Monday morning that Michigan's annual spring excursion will hit South Africa in 2019.
"We're going to (South) Africa," he said, via the Detroit Free Press. "We're going to Johannesburg and Cape Town and we're going to do a safari. How about that? How about a safari?
"I'm looking forward to it."
Harbaugh has drawn a lot of ire for his antics since becoming Michigan's head coach in December of 2014 -- some of it deserved -- but this is undoubtedly a good thing that should draw universal praise. The trips were paid for by boosters and provided once-in-a-lifetime educational experiences that college football is supposed to be about.
The Wolverines incorporated spring practices into their inaugural trip to Italy in 2017 (in addition to meeting the Pope, where Harbaugh handed His Holiness a pair of Jordans). Michigan did not practice during this spring's trip to France, spending most of their time in Paris while also making a pilgrimage to Normandy.
