ECU shares timeline for decision regarding Scottie Montgomery's future (Featured)

ECU has found themselves in an interesting situation when it comes the future of head coach Scottie Montgomery.

Montgomery is in his third season with the program and he finished 3-9 his first two seasons. This year, the Pirates have struggled to a 2-7 mark and are still looking for their first win in the AAC.

The issue is that ECU athletic director Jeff Compher was let go back in March, and the athletic department is currently without a leader. Right now, university Chancellor Cecil Staton and special adviser for athletics Dave Hart are leading the charge to find a new athletic director.

Late yesterday, Staton issued a statement (per the News Observer), noting that a decision on Montgomery's future will not come until the end of the season.

"While we are aware of the speculation concerning leadership of our football program, it would be inappropriate to address it during a time when our student-athletes and coaches deserve everyone's unequivocal support," Staton said. "An assessment of the program will be made at the conclusion of the season. This program relies on the passion of our fan base and a commitment administratively that will enable the team to be in the best position possible to succeed with minimal distractions over the next three weeks.”

ECU has a chance to get on track this weekend when a struggling UConn program comes to town for a home tilt, but then they hit the road for a challenging two game stretch against Cincinnati and NC State to wrap up the season.
