Ryan Day isn't giving his job up as Ohio State's head coach, and Urban Meyer isn't taking it.
Speculation has swirled whether Ohio State can bring Day back as head coach following a fourth straight loss to Michigan, last Saturday's being the most stunning and least forgivable of them all. Swirling among that speculation, apparently, was the idea among some Ohio State fans that Meyer would return as head coach.
That's not going to happen, Meyer said in a statement released through the podcast he co-hosts with Fox colleagues Rob Stone and Mark Ingram, who declared he's fully done with coaching while issuing support for Day and the Ohio State coaching staff.
Ohio State AD Ross Bjork previously announced his support for Day, telling the Columbus Dispatch, โOur full focus right now is on the College Football Playoff and making a strong run. We have a ton to play for. We have a great team made up of talented players and great young men. Coach Day does a great job leading our program. He's our coach.โ
With a berth in the College Football Playoff all but assured, Ohio State's future remains in limbo. If Ohio State wins a national championship or comes close, Day will clearly return in 2025. If the Buckeyes stumble in their opening round game, particularly if that game's at home, the mood within the Buckeye fan base could be toxic beyond belief.
