Florida A&M defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Milton Patterson is joining the New England Patriots coaching staff, according to Carlos Lopez of the Patriots Pulse podcast.
Patterson joined the Rattlers staff ahead of the spring season in 2021, and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2024.
He was part of a "Dark Cloud" defense in 2023 that ranked among the FCS top 25 in a dozen different categories while leading the nation in pass efficiency defense and ranking among the top nine in total, scoring, rushing, passing, and red zone defense.
Patterson is also credited with developing Isaiah Land, a Rattlers edge defender who won the Buck Buchanan Award as the top defender in FCS in 2021. The two-time All-SWAC honoree has been a member of the Indianapolis Colts for the past two seasons.
In 2023, Patterson served as a Bill Walsh Fellow with the Tennessee Titans, where he worked under new Pats head coach Mike Vrabel.
Prior to FAMU, Patterson was the defensive coordinator at Clark Atlanta and Fayetteville State.
