As Charles Huff seeks to build on Marshall's breakthrough success from its nine-win 2022 season, the Thundering Herd head coach is adding a veteran presence to the coaching staff.
Per sources, Charles "Doc" Gamble is joining the Marshall staff as an offensive analyst, with Gamble expected to formally begin his role with the program next month.
Previously the head coach at HBCU program Arkansas-Pine Bluff for three seasons and a former quarterback at fellow Football Championship Subdivision program UT-Martin, Gamble has served as an Football Bowls Subdivision assistant at Cincinnati, Kent State and East Carolina.
Additionally, Gamble has been a high school head coach at multiple stops and also served in a top assistant role at Alcorn State University, an tradition-rich HBCU program in the SWAC.
Huff and the Herd return a number of key players on both sides of the ball entering the 2023 season, when the team opens against the University of Albany but also has high-visibility tilts against Virginia Tech, North Carolina State and East Carolina, among others.
