Louisiana offensive coordinator Rob Sale is expected to become the New York Giants' offensive line coach, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.
Sale spent the past three seasons as the Ragin' Cajuns offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He and the late D.J. Looney were selected by their peers as FootballScoop's Offensive Line Coaches of the Year, announced Monday morning.
Four of UL's starting offensive linemen earned All-Sun Belt honors this year, and Sale's 2019 unit featured two NFL draft picks, including Robert Hunt who, as the 39th selection by the Miami Dolphins, became the third Cajun in program history selected among the top 40 picks.
Prior to Lafayette, Sale spent 2017 as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Arizona State, 2016 as the O-line coach at ULM, and 2015 at Georgia. He worked at McNeese State from 2012-14, the first two years as offensive line coach and the final as offensive coordinator.
Sale broke into college coaching as a strength and conditioning assistant and offensive analyst under Nick Saban at Alabama from 2007-11, where he worked alongside Giants head coach Joe Judge.
Sale will join a Giants staff full of Saban influences. In addition to the head man, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, running backs coach Burton Burns, tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens, senior offensive assistant Derek Dooley, inside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer, and defensive assistant Jody Wright all coached under Saban, and assistant offensive line coach Ben Wilkerson played for Saban at LSU.
Sale will move into an offensive line room that had two coaches last season. Marc Colombo was fired in November and Dave DeGuglielmo stepped in the rest of the way. Wilkerson is set to return as assistant O-line coach.
The Giants finished 31st in scoring in the NFL en route to a 6-10 campaign in 2020, Judge's first as head coach.
Ian Rapoport also just reported the same.
