Mike Leach, Kliff Kingsbury to enter Texas Tech hall of fame (Mike leach)

The late Mike Leach and Kliff Kingsbury will headline Texas Tech's Hall of Fame and Hall of Honor class for 2023, the school announced Wednesday.

The Hall of Fame is reserved for former Red Raider athletes. From 1999-02, Kingsbury served as the starting quarterback for Spike Dykes' final game and Leach's first. He set 39 school records, 16 Big 12 records and 17 FBS records, becoming the third quarterback in NCAA history to notch 1,000 completions for more than 12,000 yards. The fourth Red Raider to finish among the top 10 in Heisman Trophy voting, Kingsbury won the Sammy Baugh Award as the nation's top quarterback in 2002, a season that saw Texas Tech win nine games and play for a Big 12 South championship.

Kingsbury was also a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and won an Academic All-America Player of the Year award in '02, the highest academic honor in program history.

Kingsbury returned as Texas Tech's head coach from 2013-18, going 35-39. He currently works as a senior offensive analyst at USC.

The winningest coach and program history and one of the most revolutionary minds in football history, Leach will enter TTU's Hall of Honor. Leach went 84-43 from 2000-09, led the Red Raiders to a bowl game in all 10 seasons, five bowl victories, and five AP Top 25 finishes. His 2008 team shared a Big 12 South title and won 11 games, the high water mark of modern Red Raider history.

Following his 2009 ouster, Leach won 55 games at Washington State and 19 at Mississippi State, where he served as head coach upon his Dec. 13 passing.

The 8-member 2023 class will be honored Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30, during the Red Raiders' game with Houston.
