Lane Kiffin signs contract extension at Ole Miss (Ole Miss)

Hours before his Rebels kick off against Indiana in the Outback Bowl, Ole Miss announced it has inked Lane Kiffin to a contract extension.

"This is an investment in the future of Ole Miss Football," Ole Miss AD Keith Carter said. "We hired Coach Kiffin with the hope of revitalizing our football program, and in just one short year, he has done just that. His innovative offensive approach has shattered SEC records, and with a top-20 recruiting class coming in, the future is bright under Coach Kiffin's leadership. We are committed to him and providing the resources necessary to elevate this program to greater heights."

Of note: Mississippi law prevents public institutions from offering contracts longer than four years. Kiffin's original deal totaled $16.2 million in base compensation and would have paid him $4 million in 2021. Terms of the extension were not disclosed.

"I appreciate Keith's leadership and his commitment to building a winning football program," Kiffin said. "While I'm proud of what our team accomplished this season, we have higher aspirations for Ole Miss Football. This is just the start, and I look forward to continuing to build a championship program."

Ole Miss is 4-5 heading into their season finale, jumping from 54th to 10th in yards per play and from 81st to 12th in scoring.
