Just days after losing offensive coordinator Conor Riley to the Dallas Cowboys, Chris Klieman and the Wildcats reportedly have a new play caller in place.
Multiple reports this morning share that Matt Wells is being elevated from co-offensive coordinator to the offensive coordinator job. ESPN was the first to share the news.
In addition to his co-coordinator role, Wells also held associate head coach and quarterbacks coach titles for the program.
The former head coach at Utah State and Texas Tech, Wells just wrapped up his first season on staff in Manhattan.
After going 44-34 leading the Aggies from 2013-2018, including two 10-win campaigns, Wells took the head coaching job in Lubbock, where that success did not translate. He was let go eight games into his third season at Texas Tech after a 5-3 start and a 13-17 record overall.

Wells has been an offensive play caller just one spot before, at Utah State, where he spent one season as offensive coordinator before being elevated to the head coaching job following Gary Andersen leaving the program for Wisconsin prior to the 2013 season.
With the promotion to fill the offensive coordinator role, Klieman and the Wildcats still have an offensive line job to fill on staff.
