Changes coming to Baylor staff (Kevin Curtis)

Dave Aranda has initiated a couple changes to his defensive coaching staff as the staff gathered following a 44-31 Texas Bowl loss to LSU on New Year's Eve.

Outside linebackers coach Caleb Collins and cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis will not return to the staff, sources confirmed to FootballScoop. Collins has announced his departure from the staff via social media, and SicEm365 first reported the news of Curtis's departure.

"It sucks being let go for the first time but I'm excited about the opportunity to reset and refocus my journey," Collins wrote. "Until God opens the next door I'll be gearing up to be an even better coach for the next group of men I'll be responsible for leading."

Collins had been with the program since 2020, starting as a quality control coach and was promoted to outside linebackers coach mid-season in 2021. He shared FootballScoop Linebackers Coach of the Year honors with Ron Roberts that season. Curtis had been Baylor's cornerbacks coach since 2021.

Head coach Dave Aranda took over defensive play-calling while retaining defensive coordinator Matt Powledge. Thanks to a resurgent offense behind new coordinator Jake Spavital, the Bears jumped from 3-9 to 8-5 (6-3 Big 12) this season. The Bears improved from 95th to 23rd in yards per play, while showed modest improvement (113th to 87th in yards per play allowed) on defense.
