Baylor has hired longtime TCU assistant Paul Gonzales, the program announced Sunday.
Gonzales joined the Horned Frogs in 2012 as a graduate assistant and worked his way onto the full-time staff in 2015, coaching cornerbacks. He moved to safeties in 2018. Along the way, Gonzales was part of a TCU staff that won a Big 12 co-championship and the Peach Bowl in 2014, and reached the national championship game in 2022.
Along the way, Gonzales collected nine victories over his new employer.
Gonzales will coach cornerbacks and serve as defensive pass game coordinator at Baylor, replacing Kevin Curtis.
"We are very excited to add Paul to the Baylor Family," Dave Aranda said. "I've admired Paul's work for many years in Fort Worth and have always appreciated the way the cornerbacks and safeties played over his career. I believe he will be a tremendous mentor for our cornerbacks and will be able to step right into our coaching staff and hit the ground running. I am excited to work alongside Paul and know he will be a great fit for our defensive coaching staff and student-athletes."
Under Gonzales's direction, Tre'von Moehrig won the Jim Thorpe Award in 2020.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to join Coach Aranda and Baylor Football," Gonzales said. "I look forward to doing my part to make the Baylor secondary elite. Pursuing a championship is my primary goal and I believe in Coach Aranda's vision to achieve that."
