Hugh Freeze will make $6.5 million head coaching Auburn in 2023, the school announced Friday.
Five months after taking the job, Auburn released details of Freeze's deal. It's a 6-year contract that starts at $6.5 million and rises by $250,000 each year.
Here's how it breaks down by year:
2023: $6.5 million
2024: $6.75 million
2025: $7 million
2026: $7.25 million
2027: $7.5 million
2028: $7.75 million
Freeze stands to benefit from the SEC's impending change from eight conference games to nine. He'll earn $150,000 when Auburn reaches five SEC wins, and $150,000 per win thereafter. Further incentives range from $25,000 for a team APR between 930 and 949 to $2 million for winning a national championship.
After paying a $21.45 million buyout to Gus Malzahn and $15.8 million to Bryan Harsin, Auburn agreed to a similar buyout structure as its two former coaches. If fired without cause, Freeze will be owed 75 percent of his remaining contract with no offset.
