The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards, presented by ProGrass, are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football. Finalists were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors and other athletic department personnel. The winner will be chosen by the previous winners of this award.
The 2014 FootballScoop Coaches of the Year will be recognized and will receive their awards at an event held in their honor at the American Football Coaches Association's annual convention in January in Louisville, KY.
Previous winners of the Director of Football Operations of the Year award are Tom Deahn (Temple, 2009), Mike Kerin (West Virginia, 2010), Mike Sinquefield (TCU, 2011), Matt Doyle (Stanford, 2012) and Jason Grooms (Ohio, 2013).
Mack Butler, Oklahoma State
In addition to his duties as Oklahoma State's director of football operations, Butler also runs Mike Gundy's Cowboy Camps and the Cowboy Xtreme Camp, a fantasy camp for Oklahoma State fans that runs during fall camp. Butler is in his second stint at Oklahoma State's DFO, holding the post under Les Miles from 2001-04 (then went to LSU with Miles from '05-'08) and then returning to Stillwater in 2009. A longtime high school and college coach, Butler has served as a regional representative, and very active contributor, on the Director of Football Operations National Committee since 2007.
Mark Robinson, Florida State
It turns out the missing piece Jimbo Fisher needed to turn Florida State from a good program to a juggernaut is DFO Mark Robinson. He joined the program from Arkansas in January 2013, and the Seminoles haven't lost since. In addition to handling the day-to-day operations duties of college football's most-talked about program, Robinson also oversaw the design, construction and implementation of Florida State's new football facilities. A former Appalachian State football player, Robinson served as the assistant director of football operations at Texas A&M from 2003-07 before jumping to Arkansas and eventually to Florida State.
John Miller, Ole Miss
An original member of Hugh Freeze's staff at Ole Miss, Miller was brought to Ole Miss in January of 2012 after spending a dozen years at Southern Miss. Freeze says he's "simply the best." Prior to jumping into football, Miller served four years in the criminal investigation division in the U.S. Army, earning a National Defense Award and a Cold War Era Award for Operation Desert Storm. Miller is "one of the best people in all of football" another DFO said of Miller when nominating him.
