Sources confirm Toledo set to fill opening on staff with former Ohio State assistant (perry eliano)

Corey Parker's departure from Toledo for the corners job on Bret Bielema's staff at Illinois left Jason Candle with a spot open on his staff.

Now Candle is set to add a former Cincinnati and Ohio State assistant to fill the role, sources confirm.

Former Buckeyes safeties coach Perry Eliano is set to become the new defensive backs coach for the Rockets, sources confirm to FootballScoop.

Pete Thamel shared similar news this morning.

Eliano, a former FootballScoop Defensive Backs Coach of the Year selection, coached defensive backs Sauce Gardner and Coby Bryant to All-American seasons during his time with the Bearcats.

After two seasons in Cinci he left to become the safeties coach for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.

His stint in Columbus lasted two seasons, and he and the program parted ways in January earlier this year.

Earlier in his career, Eliano logged a few seasons in the MAC as the associate head coach / defensive coordinator at Bowling Green from 2016-17. He also has coordinator experience at UTSA and New Mexico as well, running the special teams and coaching in the secondary.
