Tennessee Vols add football operations assistant (Central Florida)

Josh Heupel's Tennessee Vols football staff is getting a bit more assistance on Rocky Top from the Sunshine State and Heupel's former program.

Tennessee is adding CJ Holden to its football operations department.

Most recently, Holden held the lead position as director of football operations in Gus Malzahn's Central Florida program.

Heupel is replenishing his Tennessee staff in both on- and off-the-field positions.

Holden fills an operational need and already is working on Rocky Top, sources told FootballScoop Monday.

Tennessee has two assistant coaching openings on Heupel's Vols staff, after losing top-tier assistant coaches Jerry Mack -- running backs coach to the NFL -- and Brian Jean-Mary, linebackers coach, to the University of Michigan.

Sources told FootballScoop Monday that Oregon running backs coach Carlos Locklyn and TCU running backs coach Anthony Jones Jr. are among the candidates in contention to replace Mack, who was hired away by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Several candidates are being vetted for the linebackers job under the guidance of Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks.
