Ron Korfmacher has spent the past 36 seasons on the sidelines at Taylor University as an assistant or head coach.
While he has nearly four decades of experience at Taylor, Korfmacher has led the program the past 13 seasons.
That run ended with an announcement last night that athletic director Kyle Gould has decided to take the program in a new direction.
Gould shared the following statement on the move:
"After a long stint as an assistant coach, Ron took over as the head coach at Taylor during an incredibly difficult time in our program's history and has led this program with integrity for 13 years. He leaves as our all-time wins leader and more importantly, he leaves a legacy of success in the lives of hundreds of young men that have come through this program."
Korfmacher led the program to 56 wins during his tenure, making him the program's all-time wins leader.
The team was able to get five games in during the spring season, and went 1-4 before having their last three contests cancelled due to COVID. The one win came against Madonna, a new startup team on Michigan's east side.
Taylor competes in the Mideast League of the ultra tough Mid-States Football Association, where three teams finished this last season ranked among the top 17 teams in the country. The league consists of Concordia-Ann Arbor (MI), Marian (MI), Saint Francis (IN), Indiana Wesleyan, Siena Heights, and Lawrence Tech.
A national search is now underway to find the program's new head coach.
