Sources tell FootballScoop Michigan is seeking to hire Mississippi State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop.
At this time we do not believe a deal is in place. Shoop remains employed by Mississippi State at this time.
Shoop's role, should a deal be reached, on Jim Harbaugh's staff is not clear at this time. Defensive coordinator Don Brown is expected to return for his fifth season in Ann Arbor.
The maize and blue recently lost special teams coordinator and safeties coach Chris Partridge to Ole Miss and linebackers coach Anthony Campanile to the Miami Dolphins.
Shoop spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Mississippi State, working under former Bulldogs head coach Joe Moorhead. His 2018 unit led the SEC with 4.13 yards per play and 13.2 points per game allowed, though the 2019 group fell off those numbers significantly.
A FootballScoop Defensive Coordinator of the Year at the FCS and FBS levels, Shoop has coordinated defenses previously for William & Mary, Vanderbilt, Penn State and Tennessee in addition to Mississippi State.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
