Penn State is expected to hire former NFL coordinator Dowell Loggains as an offensive analyst, according to Lions247.
The job would be Loggains' first in college football.
The Arkansas grad's first job came as a scouting assistant for the Dallas Cowboys, in 2005. He joined the Tennessee Titans organization in 2006, working his way from a coaching administrative assistant, to a quality control coach, to quarterbacks coach, and then to offensive coordinator in 2013.
When Mike Minchak's staff was fired following the 2013 campaign, Loggains landed with the Cleveland Browns as quarterbacks coach, then moved to Chicago in the same role. He became the Bears' coordinator in 2016, then coordinated offenses for the Dolphins and Jets. He was let go following Adam Gase's firing this winter; the club went 2-14 in 2020.
At Penn State, Loggains would be responsible for helping new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich develop the Nittany Lions' attack.
Nearly James Franklin's entire offensive staff has been hired since the turn of the decade. Running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider is the dean, with a 2018 hire date. Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein and wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield came aboard in 2020; Yurcich and tight ends coach Ty Howle are new for 2021. Howle was an offensive analyst in 2020.
