NFL team creates new position to help prevent coronavirus outbreak (coronavirus)

The Houston Texans are set to add a new coordinator to Bill O'Brien's staff: hygiene coordinator.

According to the Houston Chronicle (via Pro Football Talk), the newly-created position will be in charge of managing the Texans' practice facility to mitigate risks that any Texans player, coach or employee will contract the coronavirus.

The hygiene coordinator will oversee the team's custodial staff and manage the team's communications with Harris County health officials to coordinate the cleaning of NRG Stadium.

The new hire will not control when the Texans can return to their facility or begin play this season, those will be NFL and governmental decisions. But the hygiene coordinator can work to ensure that, once players do return and games arrive, the Texans won't have to shut things down again due to a rash of COVID-19 infections in the locker room.

This comes on the heels of the Miami Dolphins unveiling a plan to host socially-distanced fans at Hard Rock Stadium this fall.

Frankly, considering the stakes, it will be a surprise if all 32 NFL teams don't have a position like this on their staff by the end of the month.
