Kenny Dillingham: "If you don't know who your competition is, your competition is you." (kenny dillingham)

With the NFL Draft less than a month away, college across the country have been hosting not only their spring practices but have also been welcoming NFL scouts and front office personnel for their on-campus Pro Days.

Head coaches always encourage their current guys to attend those events to not only cheer on former teammates in their dreams to perform well enough for a shot to hear their name called during the draft, but also as a reminder of the end goal so many of them are working for while on campus.

Arizona State had a handful of players working out for NFL scouts at their Pro Day event last week, and when asked about advice he would give his current Sun Devils players that were present, Dillingham responded by sharing a message coaches are going to love.

"Don't wait to put in the work. You can't rush... if you want to get to where you want to go, you don't have three months to prepare."

"You're preparing every single day with everything you do, and you're competing versus people you've never met and you've never seen. So really you're just competing against yourself, because if you don't know your competition, your competition is you."

Before establishing himself as one of the top young head coaches in college football after leading Arizona State to a big turnaround from 3-9 in year one to a Big 12 title and berth in the College Football Playoff in year two (where they lost 39-31 to Texas in the quarterfinal round), Dillingham has helped to identify and develop NFL talent like Bo Nix, Cam Skattebo and Tempe is set to churn out a number of new NFL Draft picks this year with corner Keith Abney II, offensive tackle Max Iheanachor, linebacker Keshaun Elliott, and tight end Chamon Metayer among the draft hopefuls.

Heading into this fall, Arizona State's schedule features non-conference games against Morgan State (FCS - MD) and a trip to Texas A&M by mid-September, with home Big 12 games against Kansas, Baylor, Kansas State, Colorado and Oklahoma State and road conference match ups with Texas Tech, BYU, UCF and a trip to in-state rival Arizona as well.

After an 8-5 finish last fall, Dillingham carries a 22-17 mark into his fourth season in Tempe.
